What is the difference between hot rolled and cold rolled plates?

Hot rolled plates are processed at extremely high temperatures, making them easier to form and more cost-effective. They have a rougher, scaled surface. Cold rolled plates undergo further processing at room temperature for tighter tolerances and a smoother finish. Hot rolled is ideal for structural use where exact surface finish is secondary to strength and cost.

What do S235 and S355 mean?

These are European structural steel grades. S235 is a standard, unalloyed carbon steel with a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa, offering excellent weldability and formability.
